suffering-an introduction

It has been a month since I have had head surgery that removed a "bone flap". You see I had to contend with epilepsy for at least 20 years.  What put an end to the epilepsy was various trips to the hospital that culminated in some brain surgery that involved having part of my brain removed.  After a particular section of brain was removed they put some 'hardware' in my skull to help protect my brain.  Well fast forward to about 6 months ago when my brain was literally leaking green stuff.  That fact sent me to the Doctor who said that the 'hardware' was infected and had to come out or worse things could and will happen.  Now you know why I had surgery to remove the 'bone flap'.  I was going to to use that incident to talk about suffering and give a perspective to the familiar complaint that 'if God is all powerful and all good why is there suffering'.  I have been reluctant to pursue that question because I know my response will be not what you desire to hear perhaps.  I was also reluctant to go that route because I didn't want it to be about me so much, but more about the good and wonderful God who stood by me.  My head is OK right now even though it is missing some bone.  I am forced to wear an ugly helmet that you might have seen in Special Ed. classes.  It is funky!   The good news is that there is another surgery down the road where they will install a 'prostetic'.  Now that you know that I have "been there" the next post will deal more with suffering rather than my surgery.

Feel free to share your stories of suffering if you want.  Yes, I would be honored to pray for you too!
